World Hearing Day

03-03-2021

Have you ever wondered what life would be without hearing something? Some people never wonder about this, they know. Today the WHO has called this day, the 3rd of March, as World Hearing Day.

To be honest I have never heard before of World Hearing Day. I saw it a few days ago when I was searching online. On the website of the WHO you can see a lot of things about World Hearing Day.

What is it now? The WHO want to raise awareness on how to prevent deafness and hearing loss. They also want to promote ear and hearing care across the world. Did you know that 5% of the world is deaf? I didn't! Maybe it doesn't seem a lot but I think with the audiodevices that exist nowadays more and more people are getting deaf or having hearing problems.

Maybe you had already ringing in the ears or you couldn't hear something because ear wax was blocking the noise. Imagine that you have day in and out this ringing in your ears. Could you ever live with this? I couldn't. Never could hear a song again or hearing people their voice especially your loved ones. For me music is everything. The days that I'm feeling a bit down can always be a bit fixed by listening to music. So imagine if you couldn't hear a thing.

They say that people with deafness can hear through feeling. These people can feel the beat of the music. Unfortunately they can't hear the words. Sometimes words say a lot. But they invented sign language a long time ago. I find this good so people with hearing problems can also know what we say. They can know it when you can sign language. I'm someone who can't 'speak' sign language at all. I think it's a bit of a shame. I work with children and if one day I have a child with hearing problems who can 'speak' sign language I can't talk to him or her. And nowadays with the masks these people can't also read your lips. So what do you need to do then? The only thing that you can use are your hands but what if you don't know sign language? Then you can write things down but it’s not the same.

So when you know sign language use it when you see someone can’t understand you. And if you can hear be happy about it and use your ears wisefully.
